{"id":41,"date":"2009-02-26T19:27:50","date_gmt":"2009-02-26T19:27:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beamishsportingclub.co.uk\/?page_id=41"},"modified":"2020-12-31T15:01:57","modified_gmt":"2020-12-31T15:01:57","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/beamishsportingclub.co.uk\/?page_id=41","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beamishsportingclub.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/imageedit_1_2735959708-e1555352441730.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4850\" src=\"http:\/\/beamishsportingclub.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/imageedit_1_2735959708-300x195.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\"><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2797 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/beamishsportingclub.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/article-2272675-174FC331000005DC-510_634x482.jpg\" alt=\"article-2272675-174FC331000005DC-510_634x482\" width=\"634\" height=\"482\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The club was founded in the early 80&#8217;s by a&nbsp; group of business men intent on <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">relaxation on a Sunday morning <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">prior<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">to a well earned drink in the local hostelry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That particular watering hole was the Plough Inn at Kibblesworth (a mining <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">village on the outskirts of Gateshead) &#8211;<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">hence the original name of The Plough Gun Club.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As the membership grew the club moved to a farm at Beamish near the Open Air Museum and the name was changed to Beamish Sporting Club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Several happy years were spent there until another move found<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">the club on the&nbsp;outskirts of Tanfield, a village near Stanley, County Durham. However, due to the sale of the farm, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">another move was forced upon the club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Because the membership had steadily grown over the years it was decided that if two separate grounds could be found we could shoot every week.
